The new Hilton hotel building, with both a Tempo and Homewood Suites branded hotel, certainly looks open, no? As a local, I don’t consider it open until the rooftop restaurant, Urban Oak, is open for business and as of this writing, their website says that’ll be in early February.

We are so, so close to the opening of one of downtown’s newest hotels. In a way, it’ll be two hotels as we’re getting two brands under one roof in the Homewood Suites and Tempo both by Hilton. The lobby looks real good and you can already make a reservation.

The end is near for drivers going to and from Seaboard Station. The businesses have certainly heard all the complains but I see that the Hyatt House hotel is taking reservations for October of this year. I’m hoping that means that the sidewalks will be open and the streets wide open when the temperatures start to cool later this year.

The dual-branded Hilton hotel at the corner of McDowell and Davie Streets is now taking reservations in October of this year. That brings another 240 or so rooms to the downtown hotel market.

I love the space here as it truly feels like a space for all and you can see people from all different walks of life. The square organically caters to residents who want some open space, visitors who want to linger around the city, and events, planned or unplanned, in the various sections around this park-like square.

Straight out of the 2015 Downtown Plan, the southern end of Fayetteville Street, currently being used as surface parking and owned by the city, was to be kept for a major “catalytic” project. In 2015, it was envisioned that a major hotel to serve the convention center and a large corporate relocation would set up on the two sites. Fayetteville Street would then be extended down the middle.

Things are moving along nicely at the corner of McDowell and Davie Streets where downtown Raleigh’s next hotel will open. The Tempo by Hilton and Homewood Suites Raleigh Downtown, a dual-brand hotel, will have about 260 rooms.

Here’s an east-facing photo of the future apartment building called The Acorn. The project will bring about 100 apartments facing Person Street and is planned to open in Summer 2023. Since construction began, we now know that a Marriott TownePlace Suites hotel will later be built on the site shown in the foreground. The hotel faces Blount Street and will share the parking deck you see on the lower floors in the photo.
The hotel should begin construction in 2023. Check out The Acorn at their site here.
